WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that could make it easier to remember the birthdays of people saved in your phone. The upcoming feature is expected to add birthday reminders to WhatsApp’s Contacts section.
Instead of checking your calendar separately, you may be able to see when a contact is celebrating their birthday directly inside WhatsApp. The birthday information would come from the contact details saved in your phone’s address book.

Birthday reminders could appear in the WhatsApp Contacts tab
WhatsApp is also developing a dedicated Contacts tab for its bottom navigation area. The company is expected to use this section to make saved contacts easier to access.
As part of this update, contacts with a birthday saved in the phone’s address book could display a small cake emoji along with a “Birthday today” label.
This would make it easier to spot contacts who have a birthday on that particular day. Users would not have to open another calendar or reminder app just to check whose birthday it is.
WhatsApp may use birthday details from your phone’s Contacts app
The feature is expected to work by reading birthday information already saved for a contact in the phone’s address book.
For example, if you have added a person’s birthday to their contact information, WhatsApp could use that date to display a reminder when the birthday arrives.
WhatsApp is not expected to require users to enter the birthday manually inside the messaging app. If a birthday is missing, users would need to edit the relevant contact through their phone’s Contacts app and add the date there.
Once the information is available in the address book, WhatsApp could use it for the birthday reminder.
Birthday reminder may remain visible throughout the day
The planned reminder could remain visible for the entire birthday. This means users may notice it whenever they open the Contacts section during that day.
The feature could be useful for people who frequently forget birthdays or simply want a quick way to remember important dates. It may also make it easier to send a birthday message directly through WhatsApp without creating a separate reminder.

Feature is still under development
The birthday reminder feature for WhatsApp’s Contacts tab is currently under development. This means the final design, availability, or functionality could change before it reaches users.
The feature is expected to become available for WhatsApp users on Android and iOS in the future, although the exact release date has not been confirmed.
For now, users who want WhatsApp to recognize a contact’s birthday may need to make sure the birthday is correctly saved in their phone’s Contacts app.
